Sam, Ani’s boyfriend, is a philosopher and social worker He puts Ani before anyone else in the world, but their relationship takes the emotional brunt when her father starts to slip away from her control. He must learn to help Ani despite her reluctance to accept it.
Herb, Ani’s father, lives a selfless life. He let go of his father towards the later part of his life, but won’t let the same come between himself and Ani. Physically weakened from the heatwave, his dying wish is to reconnect with the story his father left behind.
